I think hes just saying that they drop there.. I got a saurian from that chest last year.

They drop all over the place in the asuran lands..really not worth the time trying to farm them.

Ok I'll test that right now, but I think it's a load of warm dog dung to be honest. To be sure, you are saying that I have to go from Rata Sum to Riven Earth to Alcazia Tangle to Riven Earth to the raptor cave and open the chest?

Edit: a chest spawned on my second try. Got a req13 purple air wand. At least it was highly salvageable and I got 8 Steel Ingots. Busted myth.

Edit4: again a crappy purple. Myth definitely busted. However, I retained my lockpick again!!! And out of 4 runs, a chest spawned in the cave 3 times.

Edit5: again a crappy purple! But more importantly, retained my lockpick again! And in the 5 runs I've done, a chest has now spawned 4 times!

Edit6: Okay this is getting too creepy for me. Again a crappy purple, and AGAIN I retained my lockpick!!. 6 runs, 5 spawns.

Edit7: Again a crappy purple, and this time my lockpick FINALLY broke. I can only say that this myth has been busted!

quit causing controvercy, you know you didnt get 4 r9 scythes(within 1 hr no doubt) from the same chest and you know that your full of poo poo, please dont post crap topics in hopes of sturing up the community.

EDIT: and for all we know you dropped that scythe near the chest, there is no text saying you picked it up.

This will need some testing done. Any one up for some chest running? I'll try testing it tomarrow morning, since I can't do it today, and post some screens with text saying that I picked it up and didn't drop any item that comes from the chest.

Kycoo, read my previous post. I did 7 runs from Rata Sum through Riven Earth to Alcazia Tangle, zoned back into Riven Earth and went to the raptor cave. In 6 of the 7 runs, a chest spawned in the raptor cave. I opened them all with one lockpick before it finally broke. All I got were crappy purples.

P.S. to majikmajikmajik: at least one of those scythes did drop from the chest, because it has the "assigned to ..." text on it, which doesn't happen if you just drop it from your inventory. However, there is no sign of when the picture was taken or just how many tries it took to get one to drop.

Edit: I just bought another lockpick. Did 2 runs, chest spawned both times. Lockpick broke on second chest. Again, 2 purples.

Edit2: Did a couple more runs without a lockpick just to see if a chest would spawn. It did on both occasions. So now I'm thinking I just missed the chest on the first of my 11 runs. It seems a chest always, or at least almost always, spawns in the raptor cave if you enter Riven Earth from Alcazia Tangle. In any case, I don't see where the OP gets his figure of 1/3 of a chance to see a chest spawn.

Those previous runs I did were all in NM.

I did ONE!! run in HM, first time a req11 Saurian Scythe!!!

Edit: I'm scratching that Saurian Scythe thing down to pure luck.

I bought a couple more lockpicks. It seems the chests definitely spawn less in HM, 1 in 3 is starting to sound about right. I've opened 4 more chests, 3 goldies and 1 purple. Nothing spectacular. It seems this was just a weird lucky break for me :P.

Actually he couldn't have dropped the scythe near the chest because if he had it wouldn't be assigned to anyone, though both screens could be of the same scythe. And while we're on the theory of conspiracy... he could just be really good with photoshop?

Seriously though, chances are he just got lucky with a couple of drops, got all exited and decided he must have found some way to "cheat" the system.

i'll confirm that too, been farming the raptors since before the raptor farming fad began and that chest regularily dropped saurian scythes, one event weekend i had 4 q9 saurian scythes myself too, and that was only using the lockpicks which dropped for me.

Saying that, saurian scythes have dropped alot in price, pretty certain its because of this chest spawn too

BTW you cant expect one to drop one every time guys lol, its not like people farm bogroot because a frog scepter drops everytime, just a chance, and in this instance, a pretty high chance imo, considering its a locked chest and a whole random set of different things can drop from it.

I used to farm Saurian Scythes in Eye of the North's early days. They pop out of chests in Sparkfly Swamp frequently, although not in the actual swamp filled with frogs.

Any chests surrounded by dinosaurs in Asura territory spawns Saurians.

2. not all chest drop gold all the time..doh
3. 4 req 9...over time...well..grog time to now
(and a lot of crapy req 10 11 12)
4. Saurian Scythes are just one of many gold to drop from a chest
( so U dont get it all the time...just like a VS spear)

(and a chest "might" be in the cave)

First of all, why would you need to clear the raptor cave prior to zoning to Alcazia Tangle.

Secondly, why would you have to zone to Alcazia Tangle at all. A chest spawns in the raptor cave frequently when just entering Riven Earth from Rata Sum.

And 4 req9's in a couple of weeks of chest running (instead of the '1 uhr later' you previously stated) isn't that great indeed.

and farm the way back..

1 uhr after the first jpg...I got my 4 req 9
sure its great...have not spent so many days on raptors farming

Sure, I get raptor farming, I've done that too. It's just that I was under the impression that this thread was more than just somebody saying that "OMG, sometimes when I raptor farm a chest spawns in the cave, and when I open the chest, once in a while I get a Saurian Scythe!!!11one!". Because the fact that a chest sometimes spawns in the raptor cave and the fact that that chest might spawn a Saurian Scythe has all been well documented and put on wiki. Therefore, /close thread please. This thread doesn't have any substance really.
